Frequently asked questions

Where are my recordings and notes stored?

Everything stays on your iPhone, in the app’s private storage. VoiceNote has no account and no server — your recordings and notes are never uploaded to the developer. See the Privacy Policy for details.

It isn’t transcribing my language. What can I do?

Open Settings inside VoiceNote and choose your spoken language under Transcription. By default the app uses your iPhone’s language; if you speak a different language, pick it there so recordings transcribe correctly.

I started recording but nothing was captured.

Make sure nothing is covering the microphone and that VoiceNote has microphone permission (iOS Settings → VoiceNote → Microphone). If a recording isn’t picking up sound, the app will offer a Restart recording button — tap it to re-initialise the microphone. On-device transcription also works offline, so a weak connection won’t stop it.

How do I free up space?

Open Settings in the app and tap Delete all recordings. This removes the original audio files while keeping your transcripts. You can also delete individual notes by swiping on them in the list.

The chat or cleanup says it’s unavailable.

The “Ask your notes” chat and transcript cleanup use Apple’s on-device intelligence, which requires a supported iPhone with Apple Intelligence enabled and its models downloaded. On devices that don’t support it, your notes still record, transcribe, and save normally.

How do I manage permissions?

You control microphone, speech recognition, calendar, reminders, and notification access anytime in the iOS Settings app under VoiceNote.
